Senior Portraits (17 Sep 08)

I had my senior portrait session today. I expected it to be a huge waste of time, since I hate taking school pictures, but I actually enjoyed it. My photographer was awesome; he would set up a shot and then stand there for about half-a-minute waiting for me to give him a real smile. :)

There was one shot where he didn’t want me to smile at all. So I tried to set my mouth into a straight line, but he didn’t seem to like it very much and asked for a “soft smile,” whatever that means. So I tried that, and he immediately went, “No, no, that’s a smirk.” :D

  1. Heyy wanna share a few? Of course, if you’re paranoid (like I would be), you don’t have to. But I love looking at senior portraits.. and pretty much any kind of portrait :D

Response: Unfortunately, I am paranoid. :P

  2. I remember my senior portraits. The were the ONLY school pictures I had ever taken while in school that actually looked good.

You should show them, if you’re not too shy.

Response: Strangely enough, I always turn out okay in the regular school pictures. I look silly when I’m forced to put my hair down and wear some weird dress thingamabob.

  3. I looked awful in my school pictures- I always did. I guess its the crappy photographer thats in a hurry and the fact that there’s lots of people behind you all impatiently waiting for their turn. But at least you enjoyed yours and had fun :)

Response: Yeah, the general experience of school pictures is awful. Luckily, I’m usually with a few friends, so we pretty much just get an hour of non-stop talking and wondering why the line isn’t moving. Better than class, really. :D

  4. Haha, that reminds me of our annual 1st-day-of-school ID photos:

“say cheese!” says the photographer with a ridiculous grin
    “…cheese…”
“no, now dont be silly, smile! like youre happy!”
*sure i’m sooo happy school’s started again” “Cheese!”
“No, that’s a grin, it needs to be a smile”
    *smiles awkwardly*
“We need to see your teeth!”

WTF! Who’s “we?!” the only thing our photos are for is for an ID to get us discounts or to get books out at the library :|

Response: I hate the head-tilting most. No one does that in real life!

  5. For some reason, I hated my school picture taking this year. The lady was picky in the manner I posed:

“You’re too far to the right! Move left!”
    *moves left*
“That’s too far! Go back to the right!”
    *moves right*
“Stop moving so much and move a little this way!”
    *moves a little*
    …….

Yeah…I know I kind of got off there, but at least it’s good you enjoyed your picture taking experience.

Response: Heh, during my school picture session, I had an awful time trying to understand what my photographer was saying. I blame the loud atmosphere.

  6. Most of my ID photos turned out awful… it was only at the beginning and end that it turned out awesome and somewhat ‘natural’..

… then again one of them was taken on an webcam coz for some reason I missed the ID photos..

For me they all happened very fast.. they didn’t really seem to care, it was just like “1, 2, 3 - smile…. next” and you’ were done.. =\
